Height Safety Equipment Inspections

Rarely are your staff at more risk than when working at height, so the working condition of your height safety equipment is paramount. It’s a legal requirement for all height safety equipment to be periodically inspected and that inspection to be recorded.

Guard / Handrail Inspections.

Guardrails and Handrails are commonly used to provide a collective edge protection for safely Working at Height. It is recommended that Guardrail and Handrail systems used for Work at Height are inspected at least every 12 months. The weather can have a big impact on the stability of safety edge protection, and when exposed to excessive high winds and snow, rails can move and become detached at fixture points – it is therefore imperative to visually inspect the system regularly to spot any abnormalities.

Anchor Point Testing and Inspection.

All fall protection systems including eye bolts and single point anchors used for the purpose of fall protection, fall arrest & restraint, must be tested and carry a test certificate to comply with HSE legislation.

These procedures are often known as eye bolt testing, safety eye bolt testing, safety system testing and recertification.

Following initial installation, the system(s) must be annually inspected and tested by a competent and qualified person to ensure it is in a safe working condition in accordance with section 12 BS 7883:2005.
